Our Friends

Becoming a member of SBC is a big commitment which is only appropriate for those who have decided to change their lives and follow Christ. However, it can be the case that some people want to be a part of SBC and feel that they belong, before they are able to make the step of baptism and membership.

Such people are able to belong to our church in a different way from church members, which is more appropriate for them.

What can I expect?

As a Friend of SBC you can expect the same love, encouragement, strengthening, guidance and prayer as a Member. One difference is in the area of guidance where we accept that until you commit your life to Christ, you may see things differently from us.

What about Church Meetings?

We want to welcome you at our Church Meetings. This is a great opportunity to see what happens at these meetings, without the responsibility of being part of discerning God’s will for our church. In practice this means being able to contribute to the discussion, but not voting.

How long?

Being a Friend of SBC is only ever seen as a temporary phase. It is for those on a journey towards making a commitment to Christ and therefore his Church. There are no set timescales, but it is expected that in time Friends will want to become Members.

Joining as a Friend or a Member

If you would like to become a member or a friend of SBC then please talk to our minister, a member of the Leadership Team or a steward.
